Peter Chang

Leading Contemporary jewellery artist Peter Chang is known for using plastic almost exclusively as his material and creating astounding objects. Chang's use of colour in his work shows a critical process of thinking. His inspiration of his work are from his environment, stories of the past and past objects and nature. Chang's pieces are unique and are mysterious.

Parts of Chang's inspiration for creating his jewellery pieces are from his environment. In the mid 1980s he became interested in acrylic glass. Living in Liverpool he obtained acrylic from the local sign writer in Berry street. Chang collected offcuts and parts of old signs taken from shops in Liverpool's Chinatown. The colours red and yellow were commonly used in his work and reference to the colours of China. e.g Most of his work show the colours red and yellow and some don't. The way that Chang uses his environment as an inspiration is to show that you can take the ordinary and turn it into something else.

Another thing that inspired Chang was his interest in the stories of the past and past objects. His influence came from 1950 jukeboxes, Mythology and Japanese armour, this is then reflected in his sculpture. The pattern that featured are black bold lines and pink colours that could be taken straight from a Japanese shield. In one of his exhibitions that includes a brilliant piece of work, such as a sculpture of multicoloured table that took nine months to make. This inspiration came from the past stories of Japanese armour. Also the way he uses the jukebox as an idea, he used lines, colour and shape to bring through into his work. Even being inspired by Mythology, his work contains shapes that are strongly represented throughout his work. The idea that he uses past objects and past stories gives a good sense of giving something a new twist.

Chang's other influences are from nature. The way he uses colour's that reference nature and its natural form. Creatures of the sea have been a subject matter in Chang's pieces. The unworldly creatures are then transformed as a brooch where the wearer can proudly exhibit his creation.

Blue and red earrings are pieced together by different squares; it was an interesting pair because it looked like the outside of an animal shell. Apart from the earrings the bracelets that he made were very detail. The Interesting thing about the piece is that there so many different things blended together e.g influenced by the land, sky and the sea and green, blue and beige colour giving them a neutral tone.

Some of his work doesn't look like your typical jewellery, because of his Influences. Being influenced by many different things like good, evil, Frankenstein, sci-fi, and also alien forms. Chang was able to produce unique sculptures and work with colour really well. The shapes that he used were out of this world and unexpected. Pattens were also a big part of his idea helping to shape his the forms of his jewellery. The thing about his work is that " weird is beautiful."

Chang considers every detail of the design carefully and takes incredible care in the construction of each piece. Even the smallest pieces may take days to make. So in conclusion of my essay, Peter Chang's work is inspiring and beautiful. His reference from around his environment, past stories, nature and the unexpected.

Kaz Roberston

Kaz Roberston work has the element fun and playful. The reason why is that the wearer can change pieces to whatever the mood that they are in , and the fact it's versatile shows that the pieces are unique e.g Rings tops can be swapped, bangles stick together and neck pieces are interconnect, also colour is an essential element in her work.

The process of making these pieces are carefully thought about e.g Laying translucent resin over opaque helps achieve a richer finish and a wider colour range, she also sets magnets within the resin provides away of changing each piece easily.

The way that Roberston jewellery looks like traditional, ordinary, however her pieces shine bright when physically in front of you cause you be able to reconstruct able play around with her pieces in order to understand her idea's.

The documentary Good Copy Bad Copy explains us about the legal situation concerning sampling, licensing and copyright rules.

On the flim there is a musician who takes part in these projects that defines the law of copyright.
In 2007 a musician called Girl Talk appeared in the documentary explaining his view of what he thinks about the process of the licensing and sampling music.
Girl Talk shows us what he does and how he mixes music,
but talks about he’s personal view on the copyright law system. He thinks it takes to long to go though that process so why not just copy and paste.

Dan Glickman the CEO of MPAA thinks sampling music is wrong.
What he does at MPAA is to prevent piracy and try making really difficult for people out there.
In 2007 the documentary Good Copy Bad Copy had connection with the pirate bay, He that the piracy wasn’t going to stop and be stopped, and say that he try make as difficult as he can so it be impossible to pirate things.

But what do I think of this documentary?

In the book I choose the photograph by Kerrick James

The picture that caught my eye's was a geisha in place were there are shrine's standing in the middle of the foot path.

Analysing the photograph

The Fore ground of the photograph is the geisha standing.

Mid ground is shrine's on the mid ground.

Back ground is a continues of shrine's that keep going.

Center of focus is the geisha in the middle of the picture

How my eyes move around the photograph, it started off looking at the geisha, then moved on to the shrine close to the front, then moves on right down to the other shrine's on the back of the geisha.

Tyra Banks

"Photography deals exquisitely with appearances, but nothing is what it appears to be".1

So on America's Next Top Model, Tyra gets behind the camera and take picture's of all the up coming models.

In each cycle is different photo shoot for specific reason.

On cycle 13 are are girls that are 5,7 down, Tyra sets up a beauty photo focusing on there upper body.

She teaches them to show expression on there face and though there eyes, also posing in a way that makes them look tall. Another thing that Tyra teaches is to make an illusion with your body using light and shadow to shape your body.

The photograph that was well noticeable to me was a photo from cycle 12 was of Allison that Tyra took of her in Brazil.
The theme of the picture was a bird in it's nest. The atmosphere that the photo was able to bring was a dark cold surrounding with a bright warmness in the center almost like pudding making the center of focus is of Allison.

What makes her stand out of the picture is that there is more lighting on her which makes it the first thing that you look at.
The way Allison is posing makes her look like a bird, with her head tilted on the side facing the camera, also tension in her arms which expands her upper body and make her look long,

and makeup and hair style sets the mode.

"So successful has been the camera's role in beautifying the world that photographs rather than the world, have become the standard of the beautiful".2
So what Tyra does is she using the camera's role in beautifying the world YES but she is beautifying a Haman's body in the world which explains improving the human body.

And the picture's that she takes, and what she does are a stepping stone for the girl's onto the fashion world.

Palmers Road, Clendon

Terry Koloamatangi Klavens.

BLOOD'S THICHER THAN MUD is the title of terry's exhibition.

The work that is on display at FRESH GALLERY OTRA are series of photographic docoumention about family and friends.

I think his work explains the emotion that you see when your with family the up's and the down's and also with friend's.

In the gallery the photograph that cathes my eye is 30. Palmer Road, Clendon it's a picture of four people just talking to other like a socal scene.

ANALYSING THE PHOTGRAPH
The fore ground of the picture is a lady right in front if the photo.
Mid ground is the man in the middle holding a cigarette.
Background is the two lady's that are in thye back.
The centre of foucs in the photo is the lady on the left shes standing by herself.
How my eyes moved across the photograph it started off with the foreground and moved the man in the mid ground and ended up in the background with two lady's.

Tove Storch

To make the familiar strange might be a strategy to make the everyday noticeable.

Tove Storch had some weird work on display.

His work wasn't one of my best one but the feeling of looking at his work was it almost had a ephemeral effect on it.

Storch's work that was on display it was a black box with a white sculpture inside looking at you. The effect of it was like a nightmarish feeling but the visual effect was translucnent.

How is this everyday? More like every night, we dream good or bad things. But our dreams are a big part of our lives cause each dream has meaning of our everyday life.

What I'm trying to say is that we look at everyday and it's not noticeable beacause we don't think about it, but our dreams are part of our everyday or every night and our dreams makes us think about it.

what does this dream mean? is something going to happen? or was just a fantasy? All along.

Her work has everyday all over it how.

WHY?? Shilpa explains about the everyday but though her view. For example the split-flap display board turns at every second,

when I read the messages it was like talking to a person, but the way it turned and flapped liked kid watching Ben 10 just waiting to see was going to happen next or when he going to use he's onitirx.

The words and the sentence's of each of them made you think what it meant and did it have special reason for it's saying

The intered in the ordinary came out of the belief that art shuold be accessible and could be mad by ordinar people

The title explains a lot, anyone can take a picture of a a girl hold two cups but it's not what you see, it's how the picture is taken and also the idea behind whats going on in and behind the picture. Look at her facial feature's, body language, and the objects around and her what she's holding.

But how can every day people make art? anyone can. WHY??? Because in the past putting paint on canvas is known as art and today right now art is everywhere and made by everyone.

e.g drawing is not talent its by practicing drawing.

Czarina Alisi Wilson had the winning design of cult couture of 06, now she has her first solo exhibition, called PLASTIC

She is known for her traditional Tongan garments, Hundreds of tiny red vinyl squares are Swen together to make a ta'ouala (Tongan traditional dancing).

Czarina Alisi Wilson canvas is the body and her message is fromed in a fashion view as it is in the same way that the t-shirt art has become the notice board of Pacific pop-culture

The labours of Herakles

The Labours of Herakles are made from Marian Magurie.

In the collection she has used twelve lithographs and eight etchings and also using the a Greek mythology character Herakles.

Her work tells us a story about Herakles and also changing the environment that he is in and casting him as New zealand pioneer.

In her work she keeps with Greek style of telling a story by the drawing and the vase.
